An Invitation to Y’2 Leather’s Company Store
So you’re interested in Y’2 leather, but not sure what to choose for your first purchase. You want to carefully compare the products and find the perfect one. Maybe you want advice
from an expert on which jacket looks best on you. And there are so many types of leather, but you’re not sure what makes each one special. These are just the kinds of questions we get from our customers all the time, and what we want to help you with at our physical retail shop: Y’2 Leather’s Company Store.
Our Company Store isn’t your typical flagship open to the public every day. As we’ve shared before, we use a reservation-only system, accommodating up to 3 visits per day.
But I'm not sure we've taken the time to fully convey why we chose this relatively closed business model, so I'd like to take a deep dive into the ins and outs of our Company Store.
At Y'2 Leather, we take a sincere, uncompromising approach to leather, partnering with dedicated tanners who continuously hone their craft. Together, we develop leather of the
finest quality with truly distinctive character. At our head office factory, skilled artisans tailor each and every piece with great care, drawing out qualities of each model and leather type, using the optimal cutting, interlining and sewing techniques.
Take a specific design, for instance. A car coat's character can vary greatly if it’s made from horsehide, deerskin or steerhide. Tanning and finishing affect the texture and appearance, while the choice of interlining materials will make the feel while worn completely different. Even with the same material – like indigo horse – a different tailoring method is needed to make it a rider's jacket or an A-2. Considerations like ruggedness versus elegance, the feel when worn, and of course how it ages, all vary from one piece to another.
Y'2's jackets are often said to “transform” beyond imagination from their brand-new state. After five or even ten years of wear, you can see the personality of the wearer reflected
physically in the jacket. Once you put your arms in the sleeves, what starts out flat and unassuming gradually takes on shape as the body and arms round out, revealing creases and a sheen throughout the jacket, tracing the wearer’s body. To help our potential customers visualize this aging process, we have prepared a limited selection of samples worn in by our staff for several years.
Sizing is crucial to optimize how a jacket will trace the wearer’s body. Every wearer’s intended use or style is unique—some may reserve it for certain seasons, while others focus on their choice of inner layers. We begin by consulting each customer on those needs, and work together to choose the optimal size followed by a personalized fitting, to find that perfect match you will want to wear for years on end.
As the makers of these jackets, we can’t stand the thought of them gathering dust in the closet just to be resold at some point, just because it “wasn’t what I expected.” Since this is a significant investment, we want you to fully grasp the pros and cons of our products before you buy them. We truly wish for you to find the leather jacket that becomes your lifelong “companion.”
Let us convey our passion with a private, one-on-one tour of our Company Store, led by me, Takao, or my colleague Yuma, who knows our products inside and out and accompanies me on visits to our exclusive dealers across Japan. We dedicate one to two hours so you can truly get a deeper understanding of leather, and carefully select the perfect fit.
By the way, we don’t want you to feel put off by the “reservation-only” system – there is absolutely no pressure to buy anything on the spot. We are just happy for you to get to know Y’2 Leather, and welcome those who want to compare our products with other brands. It would make us overjoyed to see you come back a second time!
To make an appointment, click on the “RESERVATION” link on the menu of our website, and choose your preferred time, 13:00, 15:00 or 17:00. We will follow up with a confirmation e-mail. If you need to cancel, you can easily do so via the cancellation page. We look forward to welcoming you!
