About leather (thickness and scratches)
Today's article is the second part of the 'About leather (dyes and pigments)' article we published the other day, explaining the 'thickness' and 'scratches' of leather.

What do you imagine when you think of leather?
Before I started this job, I used to imagine leather as a finished product, such as a jacket or a bag.
I thought that if it was a product and had the same model number, there would be no individual differences and not many scratches.
However, this image changed drastically when I saw the leather that was actually delivered to us.
First of all, each piece of leather with the same finish has a different size.
Some humans are 160 cm tall, while others are 180 cm tall. In the same way, the size of leather differs between small and large individuals in horses and cows.
It's obvious but I didn't think about that until I saw it in person.
Think of thickness and scratches in the same way, replacing them with human beings.
You all have different thicknesses of skin on different parts of the body, such as the shoulder and the stomach. Scratches from injuries also vary from person to person in terms of part and depth, don't they?
Horses, cows, deer, sheep and goats are all the same.
It is forbidden to kill most of the animals used for leather products for their skins, and much of the leather used in leather jackets and small leather goods is a by-product of the meat processing process.
Because they are not raised for leather, they naturally vary from one individual to another in terms of flaws, thickness and size.
We want our customers to enjoy the original state of the leather in the leather jackets we make, with these differences between each piece of leather and different thicknesses in different parts of the same piece of leather.
Of course, we try to avoid scratches and extreme differences in thickness, but no two pieces of leather are exactly the same.
The thickness may differ on the left and right side of the sleeves and on the upper and lower sides of the body.
If the leather is thinned and split, the thickness will become uniform, but the original thickness of the leather will be lost.
Scratches and bloodstains may also be present.
Thicker pigment dyeing can make the scratches less noticeable, but the original look of the leather is lost.
We don't dare to do that, because we are very particular about it.
There may be scratches. The thickness may vary.
But we believe that this is the original appearance of the leather and that it is unique to that particular piece.
You can't find it anywhere in the world, it's a unique piece of jacket made of a unique leather with a unique character.
If you think about it, even the scratches and thickness of the leather will become more endearing.
"Each piece is a unique encounter."
