# FADED HORSE

Y'2 LEATHER is proud to introduce our newly developed original leather, **FADED HORSE**.

Some of you may have already seen it featured in **Hail Mary Magazine Vol.122**, and we are truly grateful for the tremendous response and the many inquiries we've received. Today, we'd like to share the story behind this new leather.

FADED HORSE was developed with one clear goal: to offer a horsehide that reveals its character and patina much earlier than our existing leathers, such as **ECO HORSE**, while still preserving the depth and beauty that define Y'2 LEATHER.

In fact, the original concept for this leather was completed nearly ten years ago.

At that time, however, the prevailing belief among leather jacket enthusiasts was that the true pleasure of horsehide lay in breaking in a heavy, rigid leather over many years. I shared that passion myself, and as a result, this leather was never brought into production.

Ten years later, after developing many different types of leather and continuously exploring the possibilities of horsehide, we decided it was finally time to revisit this forgotten project.

In recent years, we've heard more and more customers say:

* "I want to enjoy leather jackets more casually."
* "I'm not sure I have the patience to fully break in a very stiff jacket."
* "I'm looking for something different for my second or third leather jacket."

FADED HORSE was created to answer those voices and offer a new way to enjoy horsehide.

The leather measures approximately **1.5mm thick**. It retains the firmness and structure expected of premium horsehide, while being deeply infused with oil during the tanning process to create a remarkably supple feel and exceptional comfort from the very beginning.

The greatest challenge during development was maintaining this rich oil content while achieving the exact appearance we envisioned.

Throughout the milling and finishing processes, oils naturally tend to diminish, making it extremely difficult to preserve both softness and character. To overcome this, we repeatedly adjusted the leather thickness, oil content, and finishing techniques, ultimately creating **five different prototypes** before arriving at the final result.

We owe our sincere gratitude to our tannery, whose dedication and craftsmanship made this leather possible despite our demanding expectations.

FADED HORSE is constructed with a dark brown base, finished with a black top coat. As the jacket is worn, natural wear gradually reveals the rich brown core beneath, producing beautiful high-contrast aging unique to this leather.

But what defines Y'2 LEATHER goes beyond color fading.

As the jacket ages, the oils stored deep within the leather slowly migrate to the surface through everyday wear. Combined with natural friction, they create a rich, organic luster that cannot be artificially reproduced.

FADED HORSE simply allows you to experience this transformation much earlier than traditional horsehide.

From **ECO HORSE**, inspired by the honest, unrefined horsehide of the 1930s...

To our horsehide dyed using traditional Japanese techniques such as **Indigo**, **Persimmon Tannin**, and **Sumi Ink**...

And now, **FADED HORSE**.

Each leather is born from a different philosophy, yet they all share the same purpose: to continue exploring the limitless possibilities of horsehide.

FADED HORSE bridges the gap between a leather that demands years of dedication and one that offers immediate enjoyment.

It delivers beautiful aging while maintaining the refined elegance that allows it to be worn naturally for years to come.

For its debut season, FADED HORSE will be available in two iconic Y'2 LEATHER styles: our **WWII-inspired Type I Denim Jacket** and our signature **Car Coat**.

There is still a little time before the official release, but we sincerely hope you'll look forward to experiencing this new chapter in horsehide.
