GOAT SKIN Type G-1
Finally, we're excited to introduce our latest creation.
G-1 FLIGHT JACKET
Although Y'2 LEATHER has produced G-1 jackets in the past, this new version represents a completely different level of dedication to authenticity.
Our goal was to faithfully recreate the original specifications by carefully studying an authentic vintage G-1 flight jacket.
The development process began with the leather itself.
Just like the original vintage jackets, we chose goatskin for its excellent water resistance and durability.
While the leather used in our previous G-1 had a beautiful sheen, we wanted to take things even further this time.
We developed a new goatskin with substantial thickness, a refined color, and a rich yet understated luster. Through repeated sampling, we carefully adjusted the oil content, texture, and finish until we achieved the vintage character we had envisioned.
The mouton collar was another important part of this development.
To capture the appearance of the original, we developed a custom dyeing process from scratch, carefully considering not only how the collar looks when new, but also how its color and character will evolve through years of wear.
Our attention to authenticity extended beyond the materials.
Rather than simply recreating the appearance of a vintage jacket, we wanted to understand the construction, design philosophy, and craftsmanship behind the original.
We carefully disassembled an authentic vintage G-1 to examine its construction in detail.
This process revealed structural details and subtle features that would otherwise have been difficult to identify. Each discovery helped us refine the pattern, cutting, and sewing techniques to achieve a more faithful reproduction.
The distinctive two-stage knitted waistband is another feature of this jacket.
Our design is based on the Type C specification adopted in the 1960s, one of the most widely used and enduring variations of the G-1 flight jacket.
Even the MIL-SPEC label received special attention.
As the original typeface was no longer available, we painstakingly recreated the lettering by hand to reproduce the appearance of the vintage label.
From the goatskin and mouton collar to the pattern, stitching, and label, every detail was carefully considered.
After countless samples, adjustments, and months of dedicated work, we have finally completed a jacket that truly reflects our commitment to craftsmanship.
We are incredibly grateful that this G-1 has received the highest number of orders among our new releases this season.
However, due to its complex construction and the amount of work involved, production cannot be rushed.
As this is a new release, we also wanted to ensure that all our dealers received their jackets at the same time.
Now, entering the fourth month of production, we are pleased to announce that shipments to our dealers across Japan have finally begun.
Most sizes at our Osaka flagship store have already sold out through pre-orders.
